Jim Taylor started his career as a Brand Manager at Gallaher cigarettes, working on the Silk Cut brand. For the next nine years, he joined Ogilvy & Mather London and subsequently McCann-Erickson Johannesburg, Carat London and Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town.
In 1998, Jim left Ogilvy & Mather in Cape Town to co-found Nota Bene, South Africa’s first communications planning agency. Along with partner Peter Vogel he co-managed the agency and was responsible for its extremely fast growth and success.
Between 2003 and 2009 he worked for Mediaedge:cia as Planning Partner and next as Regional Director, Retail EMEA for the same agency. In 2009 he joined G2 as Global Communications Planning Director.
Starting 2011, Jim Taylor is Head of Integrated Activity Planning Capability, Global, SABMiller, where he focuses on building the capability in local markets (therefore, he is running round the world).
In the last few years, Jim has published two acclaimed books: “Space Race”, which predicts the future of communications planning and how it will influence marketing and agency worlds; and more recently, “Rigorous Magic”, which explores how brands use Communication Ideas.
